ISLAMABAD: The construction of a Hindu temple in the federal capital has been halted by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

According to ABC, the government had provided 20,000 square feet of land for the construction of a Hindu temple in Islamabad and work on it had started a few days ago, but the construction of the temple was met with strong opposition across the country. Work stopped.

The construction of the temple in Islamabad was opposed not only by clerics of every sect but also by government allies. A lawyer had also approached the Islamabad High Court to stop the construction of the temple. The original master plan of Islamabad has been violated. The court had sought clarification from the concerned authorities.

According to Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Lal Chand Malhi, the entire complex will be built on the site, which will include a temple, community hall and parking lot. The construction of the complex is estimated at Rs. 500 million. He hoped that the government would provide Rs. 100 million in the first phase.
